Prerequisites

1. A new Moodle course
2. Test accounts enrolled as teachers and students
3. PebblePad Global Administrator permissions

Steps 1-5
Test single sign-on and enrolment synchronisation

1: Access the Moodle course

Go to the prepared Moodle course (see prerequisites)

2: Put Moodle course into edit mode

Scroll to the top right corner and toggle on the edit mode button.

3: Create a new assignment

  • Within a content section, select the +Add an activity or resource link
  • From the pop-up modal, choose the External Tool tile
  • In the Activity Name text field, give the assignment a title
  • In the Preconfigured Tool menu, choose PebblePad from the dropdown options
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and choose the Save and display button.

This new Moodle assignment will be used to create and link to a new ATLAS workspace - which will contain the new (linked) ATLAS assignment:

  • Select the Open in a new window text link

  • Select the Create a brand new workspace option and press the Continue button

  • Select Activate Mode option

  • Select the Managers tab to view accounts that will be synced

  • Select the Members tab to view accounts that will be synced

  • Select the Finish button

The ATLAS workspace title will be populated from the Moodle course title.

5: Confirm enrolment synchronisation

Confirm all active accounts in the Moodle course have synchronised over to the linked ATLAS workspace.

  • Choose the Members option from the top menu.
  • Choose the User Group (Synchronised) option from the sub menu. Synced accounts will be listed
  • Choose the Managers option from the top menu. Synced accounts will be listed

Users are enrolled to an ATLAS Workspace based on the permissions of their Moodle course enrolment.

Steps 6-9
Test grade synchronisation

6: Login as a Student

Login to the test student account to check the assignment is linked correctly to the Moodle course.

  • From the Moodle course, select the assignment link (as created above)

The assignment link uses role recognition with student accounts directed to Pebble+ when the button is selected.

7: Submit a student assignment

To test the grade synchronisation from the ATLAS workspace back to the Moodle course's grade centre, it's necessary to submit a student assignment to ATLAS for it to be graded.

  • Choose Assets from the Pebble+ dashboard
  • Select the icon of the Asset to submit for grading*
  • Select the I want to... button and choose Share
  • From the pop-up modal, choose With ATLAS
  • Follow the options to choose the correct workspace (and assignment)
  • Finish by selecting the share asset button
  • Scroll down the sidebar to see confirmation the asset has been shared.

*This assumes an asset has been pre-prepared as outlined in the prerequisites. If this has not yet been done, create a new asset to be submitted.

8: Login as a Teacher

To finish testing the grade synchronisation from the ATLAS workspace back to the Moodle course's grade centre, login to Moodle as a Teacher:

  • Access the Moodle course
  • Go to the Assignment link

The assignment link uses role recognition with teacher accounts directed to the ATLAS workspace when the button is selected.

9: Grade submission

Open the submission submitted in step 8 and give it a grade.

  • Select the Submission option
  • Select the title of the submission to open in the ATLAS Submission Viewer (a new tab window)
  • In the feedback sidebar, select the I want to... button
  • Choose Add Grade from the list
  • Add a (numeric) grade into the text area
  • Select the Save & Release button - confirmation will appear beneath once saved.
  • Return to Moodle and navigate to the course's Grades
  • The grade will be passed into the grade book column for the associated student

Grades recalled or deleted in ATLAS will not recall or delete the grade in Moodle.

Steps 10-11
Test direct resource linking

  • Within a content section, select the +Add an activity or resource link
  • From the pop-up modal, choose the External Tool tile
  • In the Preconfigured Tool menu, choose PebblePad from the dropdown options
  • Choose the Select Content button beneath
  • From the pop-up modal, choose the PebblePad resource with which to link
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and choose the Save and return to course button.

11: As a student, open the resource

Login to the test student account to check the direct link to the PebblePad resource from the Moodle course.

  • Select the highlighted (clickable) text of the PebblePad resource
  • Pebble+ will open in a new tab window directly into the resource
  • Add a title and save the asset
  • The asset will be saved to the user's asset store

This confirms direct linking to PebblePad resources from a Moodle course is tested and working.

This completes the end-to-end test of your Moodle to PebblePad LTI integration.
