External is the term we use to describe people from outside of the host organisation who require access to learners' submissions or assessors' grades and feedback. This can be: 

• people who work alongside students and tutors during their studies - such as:
  - work-based line managers for degree apprentices,
  - ward nurses for nursing students,
  - classroom teachers for student teachers.
  
  

• people in the role of an external moderator called upon to give outside moderation after internal assessment has occurred.
